It’s been a while since I went bowling, I’ve never been that good. There was a short period where I went every Saturday morning with my father-in-law but it didn’t last. My highest score during that time was 178 but that wasn’t typical.
After this little burst of activity bowling I’ve over been a few times, once or twice every couple of years with family or on a work night out. I used to try to use a 12 pound ball but to be honest, I’ve never been that strong and had trouble steadying myself whilst holding it. After using the 12 pound ball I always ached the next day.
I moved to using a 10 pound ball, I could handle it a lot better but just didn’t have the power and my scores typically came back at sub 100. That is until I started getting fit. I run three times a week and I have a set of dumbells that I lift twice a week.
I went bowling again a few weeks ago, I picked up the 12 pound ball and it felt lighter than I remembered it. I was able to handle it well and throw it straight down the middle of the lane. I haven’t played in about two years, but my average score increased by about 30.
I put this down to being able to handle the ball better because I’m now much stronger than I was the last time I played. Since starting to look after my health and fitness I’ve seen some unexpected benefits, this being one of them. It’s amazing the difference it makes to your life, everything just seems so much easier.
If you’re wanting to lose weight try to think of some of the daily activities that you find hard today and ask yourself, would these be easier if I was fitter. If so, use these as motivation to help you change your life.
