Do you know the 3 biggest myths preventing you from living a happy life? If you want to live a happier life without being miserable, then read on because we’re going to blow wide open three myths about happiness.
Before revealing the three myths there’s one thing you must know, you are the one that is preventing yourself from being happy and nothing else and only you can do anything about it.
Myth #1: I’ll be happy when I achieve my goals
A lot of people are in perpetual cycle of sorrow because they believe they will be happy when they achieve their goals. If you are one of them, you are just chasing shadows. You know why? Human goals do not end. When you achieve one goal, you will naturally set another goal for yourself.
So, what exactly is the goal that is keeping you sad? A car, a home, or a big bank account? If you don’t make yourself happy now, you will remain miserable when you achieve these goals.
There are millions of people who do not have all you have but are happy. Your happiness does not depend on those goals. You think you happiness depends on these goals and your thinking makes it true to you.
Did you know that being happy attracts to you and being sad dispels it? You do now.
A little-known fact is it takes more energy and more muscles to frown than to smile. Do yourself a favour, smile more, it will conserve energy so you have more of it in the evening when you need it for social activities.
Think of the brighter side of life and make yourself happy. Listen to soul-lifting music and watch a lot of comedies and laugh a lot.
Myth #2: More things will make me happy
Material things don’t make people happy. If they did how would you explain why rich people still commit suicide? If you think you will be happy when you have more monetary wealth, you are looking things from the wrong perspective. Even when you have those things you will still look for more and continue to be unhappy.
Here is a funny story to support the point. One day, a young janitor was depressed in her place of work. She was never truly happy but that day, her sorrow was obvious.
Several colleagues asked her why she looked so miserable and she said her rent was due and her landlord was threatening to kick her out. They asked her how much the rent was and she said it was $120.
Due to how hardworking she was, her colleagues decided to do a whip round of the office to help her out. Fortunately for her, they raised the whole amount and gave her the money.
She was very happy and she thanked everyone. Twenty minutes after, she was back to her old sorrowful mood. You know why? She was sad because she felt she should have inflated the amount.
That way, she would have some money to spend after paying her rent. So, if you think you will be happy after acquiring more wealth, you are not so different from the ungrateful office worker.
You are just focusing on what you lack, instead of being thankful for what you have.
Myth #3: I’ll be happy some day in the future
This the worst myth. If you believe that you will be happy in future, the day won’t come because there is no day tagged as the day of happiness. You need to be happy now, if you’re not, you never will be, you will never have enough because there will always be more to have.
If you keep postponing your happiness for any reason, you are only increasing the days of sadness and you only have a finite amount of days left to live.
Happiness is a choice, it’s not something that happens to you. Happy people always find reasons to be happy with their existing life no matter what it’s like at that moment in time. It is not that life treats them better.
On the other hand, sad people always have reasons to be sad, not that life treats them any worse, they just look for all the bad things in their life and say “Look, this, that and the other is crap in my life, you see, my life is awful”. It’s up to you now, you can choose happiness or you can choose something else.
If you decide to choose happiness, there are things you can do to make the transition easier which I outline in my choose happiness guide and you can download now FREE.
